New boiler installation · Swansea & Gower

A new boiler is a ten‑year decision. We help you make it well.

Fully‑fitted combi, system and heat‑only boiler installations across Swansea from £2,190. Worcester Bosch accredited installers with 10‑year manufacturer warranties, free in‑home surveys, and fixed written quotes with everything itemised — including the parts most other quotes bury in the small print.

01 · Why replace

Signs your boiler is
on its last winter.

Boilers rarely fail suddenly. They give plenty of warning if you know what to look for. Every autumn we get calls from Swansea homeowners whose boilers have limped through another summer and are showing the classic pre‑failure signs — and every autumn a fair few of them wish they'd rung six months earlier.

The usual lifespan of a modern condensing combi is twelve to fifteen years. Older non‑condensing boilers from before 2005 are still out there — we service dozens of them across Uplands, Sketty and Morriston — but they're running at roughly 70% efficiency compared to a new A‑rated boiler's 93%, which means every £100 of gas is buying you £70 of heat instead of £93.

Time to think about replacement if…

  • The boiler is over 12 years old and out of warranty
  • Annual repair bills are creeping past £200
  • You've been told a major part (heat exchanger, PCB, fan) has failed
  • Radiators are cold at the bottom and a power flush hasn't fixed it
  • Gas bills have climbed year on year with no other explanation
  • The boiler is a non‑condensing model (usually pre‑2005)
  • You're moving from a combi to a system, or vice versa, because your household has grown

If any of these ring true, ring us. A free in‑home survey takes 30 minutes and tells you whether a repair is still economical or whether you're better off putting that £400 diverter valve toward a new boiler entirely.

02 · Choosing type

Combi, system or
heat‑only?

Most Swansea homes end up with a combi boiler, and for good reason — one appliance handles heating and hot water, no separate cylinder taking up airing‑cupboard space, and hot water on demand rather than waiting for a tank to reheat. But it isn't the right choice for every household.

Combi boiler — best for

  • Two‑ and three‑bedroom homes with one bathroom
  • Households where two showers running at once is rare
  • Properties with mains water pressure above 1 bar
  • Anyone wanting to reclaim airing‑cupboard space

System boiler — best for

  • Four or more bedrooms with two‑plus bathrooms
  • Households that want simultaneous showers at full pressure
  • Properties on marginal mains pressure (parts of the Gower, older SA1 flats)
  • Homes already fitted with an unvented hot water cylinder

Heat‑only (regular) — best for

  • Larger period homes with existing gravity‑fed tanks in the loft
  • Properties where major pipework changes would be prohibitive
  • Homes with heritage constraints preventing pressurised systems

We'll advise honestly which suits your property during the survey — nobody benefits from a household of four sharing a 24kW combi that gasps whenever anyone turns on a tap.

03 · Sizing

Getting the size right
matters more than the brand.

An oversized boiler short‑cycles constantly, wearing out components years early. An undersized one struggles to keep the house warm on a cold February morning. Proper sizing is arithmetic, not a guess — but a surprising number of quotes still specify by "gut feel" or by matching whatever's on the wall already.

We size boilers using the same method the manufacturer engineers use — calculating your property's peak heat demand from the room dimensions, insulation, window ratios and heat‑loss coefficients, then adding a modest allowance for hot water demand. It takes about 20 minutes on a site survey and it's why our installs run efficiently for the whole of their life rather than the first three winters.

The 40kW myth

You'll sometimes see quotes recommending a 40kW combi for a modest three‑bed house. That's usually because the salesperson wants a bigger commission on a bigger boiler. Beyond 32kW you gain almost nothing except more standing pilot losses and shorter component life. If a quote wants to fit you a 40kW boiler in a two‑bath home, ask them to justify it — a good installer will explain why (rare) or admit it's marketing (common).

04 · Brands

The brands we
install, and why.

We're accredited to install every major UK boiler brand. In practice we recommend from five ranges, because those are the ones we know we can stand behind for the full length of the warranty — including finding parts quickly when something goes wrong in year seven.

01 · WORCESTER BOSCH

Greenstar 4000, 8000 Life

The default recommendation for most Swansea homes. Well‑made, quiet, 10‑year manufacturer warranty when we fit them, and parts availability that outlasts the warranty itself. From £2,190 fully fitted.

02 · VAILLANT

ecoTEC plus & exclusive

German build, exceptionally quiet operation, excellent modulation range so it doesn't short‑cycle in shoulder seasons. 10‑year warranty on the exclusive. Slightly premium — from £2,690 fitted.

03 · IDEAL

Logic Max & Vogue Max

British‑built (Hull), the smart‑money choice for tighter budgets. Vogue Max carries a 10‑year warranty and matches the Worcester on flow rate and efficiency. From £1,990 fully fitted for the Logic Max C24.

04 · VIESSMANN

Vitodens 050 & 100‑W

Stainless steel heat exchanger (most brands use aluminium), so it shrugs off the mineral‑hard water we get in parts of Swansea. Premium price, premium reliability. From £2,890 fitted.

05 · BAXI

Platinum & Assure

Solid, straightforward, unglamorous — the "just works" choice. Good for landlord installations where we prioritise parts availability and low replacement cost. From £1,890 fitted.

06 · WHAT WE DON'T FIT

The brands we skip

We don't fit boilers we can't get parts for quickly, and we don't fit budget brands with a track record of PCB failures at year four. Ask us which ones — we'll say honestly, we just won't put it in print.

05 · Install day

What actually happens
on the day.

Most straight combi‑for‑combi swaps take one working day. A conversion from an old regular boiler to a modern combi, or a system boiler with a new unvented cylinder, typically takes two. You'll have heating and hot water back on by the end of that day.

07:30 · ARRIVAL

Setup and isolation

Van parked, dust sheets down, floor protectors along the route to the boiler cupboard. Gas, water and electric isolated at the boiler and safely capped. Existing boiler and pipework drained.

09:00 · POWER FLUSH

Cleaning the system

Full magnetite flush of the entire heating system using an industrial magnetic filter and Sentinel X400 chemical. Every radiator individually flushed. Water runs clear before we call it done.

11:00 · OUT WITH OLD

Remove old boiler

Old boiler comes off the wall, disconnected properly, taken away for scrap. Any redundant pipework is capped or removed. We photograph the empty wall so you can see what's underneath.

12:30 · NEW BOILER MOUNTS

Fitting the new unit

New boiler bracketed to the wall, pipework reworked in copper, gas run upgraded if needed for the new kW rating, condensate drain routed away from freezing risk (a common Swansea winter failure point).

15:00 · FILTER + FLUE

Filter, flue and controls

Fernox TF1 magnetic filter fitted to the return, flue routed and sealed, smart thermostat wired in and paired to your phone. All new isolation valves and drain‑off points fitted.

16:30 · COMMISSION

Fire up and commission

System filled and pressurised. Boiler fired, flue gas analyser reading recorded and photographed. System balanced radiator‑by‑radiator so every room reaches temperature together. Handover and warranty paperwork.

What we always tidy up

Every install ends with the floor hoovered, tools and packaging removed, and the boiler cupboard left cleaner than when we arrived. Boxes and old boiler go on the van — you don't have to arrange skip hire or a council collection.

06 · Warranty & aftercare

The paperwork,
explained.

A boiler warranty is only as good as the installer's ability to prove the install was done properly. We keep the paperwork ourselves as well as handing you copies, so if you ever need to make a warranty claim in year eight we can back it up.

Every new boiler we install comes with three layers of cover:

1. Manufacturer parts warranty

Worcester Greenstar boilers we fit come with a 10‑year parts and labour warranty from Worcester Bosch. Vaillant ecoTEC exclusive is 10 years, Ideal Vogue Max is 10 years, Viessmann Vitodens 100‑W is 10 years, Baxi Assure is 10 years, Ideal Logic Max is 7 years. All of these require an annual service by a Gas Safe engineer to remain valid — we'll offer a reminder each year, ours or not.

2. Our own labour warranty

On top of the manufacturer's cover, we add a 12‑month labour warranty. If any workmanship issue develops in the first year — a leaking joint, a loose electrical connection, a flue re‑seal — we come back and fix it at no cost. In practice we've been called back to about 2% of installs, always for minor things.

3. Building Control notification

Every gas boiler install is legally required to be notified to Building Control via the Gas Safe Register within 30 days. We do this for you and email you the notification certificate. Solicitors will ask for this document when you sell the property, so keep it filed.

Making a warranty claim (if you ever need to)

Ring us first, not the manufacturer. We have direct trade lines into Worcester, Vaillant and the others — a claim we escalate is usually resolved within 48 hours, whereas an owner going in cold via a call centre can wait a week or more. It's free service that comes with the install.

07 · Cost & finance

The money side.

The final cost depends on which boiler, which house and how much of the existing plumbing survives the survey. Here's a realistic guide to what Swansea homeowners actually pay, plus how to spread it.

JobTypical Swansea homeAll‑in price
Straight combi swap · same location2‑bed terrace, Sandfields£2,190
Combi swap + power flush + smart stat3‑bed semi, Sketty£2,490
Combi upgrade + move to new location3‑bed terrace, Uplands£2,890
Regular to combi conversion3‑bed semi, Morriston£3,290
System boiler + 200L unvented cylinder4‑bed detached, Killay£4,690
Full system rebuild + rads & controls5‑bed period, Mumbles£6,890+

These prices assume standard access, standard gas supply and no unusual asbestos removal or listed‑building constraints. The written quote we hand you after the survey will be the actual number, not a range.

Finance options

  • 0% APR over 24 months — split £2,490 into 24 payments of about £103. No interest, no fees.
  • 9.9% APR over 36–60 months — lower monthly cost, small interest bill. Subject to credit check.
  • 10‑year plan — spread larger installs (£4,000+) over up to 120 months if that fits your budget better than a lump sum.

Finance is arranged through our long‑standing partner Ideal4Finance (FCA‑regulated). We don't earn commission on the finance itself — the option exists because it makes sense for some households, not because it's a profit centre.
